About the Author

My people first came to what is now Caldwell County, NC before such a place existed, but we aren't found on any founders' lists.

Personally, I grew up feeling surrounded by ghosts in my hometown, and not just of the dead but of lives that passed unnoticed by a world unconcerned with the travails occurring in a little factory town tucked into the folds of ridges that lie at the foot of the Blue Ridge.

But, as Joyce taught us, the universal can only reveal itself to us through such particulars.
